The Occoquan District Supervisor’s Office is seeking highly-motivated students with a strong interest in local government, especially with the ability to work independently in an office setting, to intern in our office. Students will assist Supervisor’s Aides in addressing constituent concerns, clerical tasks and office management and have the opportunity to work directly with the Supervisor on key projects. Students will gain a working knowledge of the procedures of local government.
Job Description: An Intern to the Supervisor provides support to the elected official by responding to concerns of constituents and completing general office operations. Interns will answer phones and be expected to quickly adapt and respond to different situations as they arise.
- Basic knowledge of the public policy process
- Ability to work independently with little supervision
- Skilled in oral and written communication
- Currently enrolled as a degree-seeking student in good academic standing
*This is an unpaid, part-time internship with the possibility of a promotion to paid “part-time” status. We ask for a commitment of 10-15 hours a week and flexible with scheduling. Our office is also willing to help students earn academic credit while interning.
